Ah, 1995. A year so recent, and yet so distant. The year of…what was it the year of, again? Well, Windows 95, of course, and the O.J. Simpson trial. But more importantly, it was a year in which a lot of high-quality art was produced, as evidenced by Stay alive till ‘95, the retrospective exhibition currently featured at the Alexander and Bonin gallery in Chelsea. The “portentous selection” (we like their website’s phrasing) of mid-’90s masterpieces includes works by Jennifer Bolande, Willie Doherty, Mona Hatoum, Robert Bordo, Glen Rubsamen, Rita McBride, and others. The show closes this Saturday, June 14, so you’ll want to hustle over there by week’s end. Note: unfortunately, the exhibition was not able to cover the biggest art event of 1995 (and the only thing we really remember about that year): the end of Calvin and Hobbes.
