Founded in 1977, Abbeville is a publisher of art and illustrated books, as well as stationery and printed gift items. Its headquarters are in New York.
The Abbeville Publishing Group publishes approximately 40 titles annually, with an active backlist of over 700 titles. The Abbeville Press imprint publishes art and illustrated books for an international readership. The Artabras imprint makes select titles available at bargain prices. Up until the year 2000, Abbeville Gifts produced desk diaries, stationery, and other printed merchandise. Abbeville Family is a company division encompassing books for children, guides for parents, and a variety of family-oriented books. Included in this division is Abbeville Kids, an imprint for high-quality illustrated books that appeal to the youth market.
The company believes that publishing illustrated books is a distinct specialty, requiring exacting standards of editorial, design, and production savoir-faire. Abbeville is dedicated to extending this standard of excellence throughout its diverse list, its relationships with booksellers, and its partnerships in distributing.
Abbeville publications have received numerous awards for intellectual and artistic achievement, such as The Vatican Frescoes of Michelangelo (Carey-Thomas Award, 1982), Nothing But the Blues (ASCAP, 1994), Empire (Prix Fondation Napoleon, 1996), The Power of Photography (selected by Choice magazine as one of its outstanding books of 1993), Rum by Dave Broom (Glenfiddich Food & Drink Awards 2004 Drink Book), and Curried Favors (Winner of the Julia Child First Book Award, 1997).
