During a school trip to the museum,
Sophie's little stuffed rabbit, Felix, disappears. The rabbit is nowhere to be found!
When Sophie gets home, her grandmother and parents assure her that he must be all right;
after all, he's traveled around the world by himself and returned home safely.
The next day Sophie and her mother go to the museum to try to find Felix. There is no sign
of him, but in the Stone Ages exhibit there is a letter for Sophie from Felix! He was wandering
around the museum, looking at prehistoric relics, when all of a sudden he found himself in a
strange land where people live in caves, wear animal pelts, and hunt strange-looking elephants.

Thus begin Felix's time travels, which take him to ancient Greece, the time of the Vikings,
the Middle Ages, feudal Japan, and the land of the early American Indians. From each stop in
his travels, Felix faithfully sends Sophie a letter telling what he's learned on his adventures,
and at the end there's a fold-out historical wall chart and map.
