Donald Tome at the Lake City UFO Landing Port. Lake City, Pennsylvania.

The Lake City UFO Landing Port was built in 1976 by citizens of that town as their community bicentennial project. City administrators and advertising pamphlets for the site declare it to be the “1st UFO Landing Port in the World,” although that distinction properly belongs to the town of St. Paul, Alberta. The park is equipped with radio homing beacons to attract cruising flying saucers and lights to illuminate the raised earthen pad. On special days a team of two little green alien figures are placed around the fiberglass saucer. At the municipal campground next door, postcards, commemorative license plates, and bumper stickers bearing the design of a pulsing UFO are sold.

Donald Tome, who maintains the park, is the former police chief of Lake City. He left the frustrations of that job for one that “brings happiness to myself and others.”
