Abbeville Press, publisher of fine art and illustrated books

Dear Friends of Abbeville,

I started the catalog’s letter from the publisher as a way to recognize our thirtieth anniversary in 2007. Even though publishing has undergone many changes over the past thirty years, and certainly continues to evolve, we have maintained our commitment to handcrafting each of our books. And just as we develop a personal connection to each title we publish, so do we value our relationship with you.

We’d like to continue our dialog with you here at abbeville.com, where we offer up more interactive content than ever before, including video book trailers, author podcasts, and the popular Abbeville Manual of Style blog . You can even respond to this letter in the form below.

I’m pleased to present our Fall 2009 publishing list click here to preview our upcoming titles). We continue to expand our Abbeville Family division with The Military Father: A Hands-on Guide for Deployed Dads —a brand-new book from the author of our New Father series, Armin A. Brott. And check out some backlist favorites in our recently added Women’s Studies category.

Abbeville fans will be happy to see that we are adding two important fine art volumes to our strong art history backlist. The deluxe slipcased The History of Paris in Painting , a companion to The History of Venice in Painting, is elegantly displayed on our catalog’s gatefold cover. While The Vatican Gardens joins our critically acclaimed series of books co-published with the Vatican.

And in case you were wondering, the flower featured on our catalog’s back cover is the Musa coccinea (‘Bronze Banana’), an unusual flower featured in Botanica Magnifica , a large-scale volume of exquisitely detailed images of endangered or exotic plants and flowers by award-winning photographer Jonathan Singer. We continue in a botanic vein as well with an extraordinary new memoir, The Weeping Goldsmith: Discoveries in the Secret Land of Myanmar, by the Smithsonian Curator of Botany, W. John Kress. Also keep an eye out for one more incredible memoir this season: Starstruck: Vintage Movie Posters from Classic Hollywood.

We look forward to this season continuing our tradition of high-quality fine art and illustrated books, and, as always, welcome your feedback.

All the best to you and yours,

Robert E. Abrams Abbeville Press, Inc.
