Vintage Movie Posters from Classic Hollywood

By

A lively, firsthand account of the evolution of a world-class collection of vintage film posters and stills, accompanied by descriptions of the stars and films depicted.

During his more than forty years as a film historian, Ira M. Resnick amassed a superb collection of more than 2,000 vintage movie posters and 1,500 stills. They were never shared with the public until Starstruck: Vintage Movie Posters from Classic Hollywood was published in 2010. This remarkable volume features the best of Resnick’s collection, with vivid reproductions of 250 posters and 40 stills from 1912-1962, Hollywood's golden age.

Ira M. Resnick founded the Motion Picture Arts Gallery in Manhattan—the first gallery exclusively devoted to the art of the movies. A renowned institution amongst movie poster collectors, the gallery is now located just outside of New York City in East Rutherford, NJ. A respected figure in the NYC film community, Resnick served as chairman of the board of the Film Society of Lincoln Center from 1999 to 2005.

A one-of-a-kind art book, STARSTRUCK combines cinematic history, a guide to poster collecting, firsthand account, and dramatic full-color artwork—a blend of genres that is unlike any other movie poster book. Resnick offers entertaining anecdotes about how he managed to acquire such stellar examples of movie poster art, as well as historical information about the stars and films shown on the pieces he collected. Bonus material includes a list of Resnick’s fifty favorite one-sheets, advice for the movie poster collector, and a glossary of terms and poster sizes. A must-have book for every collector and film buff, STARSTRUCK offers a beautifully illustrated, personal tour of a bygone age of the motion picture advertising industry.
